Valerie Briggs Solomon is a global legal and regulatory expert with significant experience in public policy and scientific engagement. She is currently based in London, where she serves as head of scientific affairs for tobacco harm reduction within the BAT Group of companies. She recently completed an international assignment as head of legal, Beyond Nicotine, within BAT. Before moving to London, Solomon was assistant general counsel and vice president of regulatory within Reynolds American Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the BAT Group. During her career, Solomon has counseled clients on state, federal, and international regulatory compliance for consumer goods, including tobacco and nicotine products. Solomon began her legal career in private practice in Washington, D.C., where she counseled clients in the food, medical device, and pharmaceutical industries. She previously served as vice president for healthcare research at a New York-based investment advisory firm. Solomon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law.
